WRITING
I enjoy writing about a variety of topics and my clips reflect that curiosity, whether it's exploring the latest food trend or profiling the people and places that inject vitality into the Northwest and beyond. During my fifteen years of freelancing, I have written hundreds of articles on everything from art and artists, to food, interior design and gardens, travel, health, wellness, and parenting.
My stories have appeared in numerous publications, including NYTimes.com, AAA VIA, 1859 Magazine, Oregon Humanities Magazine, The Oregonian, Preservation, Oregon Home, Statesman Journal, Salem Monthly, Willamette Woman, Brain World, Moms Like Me, Natural Awakenings, and Your Health.
Below are a few samples of my work.

PERSONAL ESSAYS
The First Step to Making a Change: Feeling Foolish, Next Tribe
There I was, wedged like a Christmas ham into a tighter-than-tight, bright turquoise one-piece procured from Poshmark. My hair was squashed into a swim cap, and I could already feel the lasting imprint around my eyes from my foggy goggles. I was uncomfortable. I didn’t know what I was doing. And that was the point.
Beans on Toast, Dirty Spoon Radio Hour
While Beans on Toast is a hallmark of British cuisine, it’s not something you’re likely to find on a restaurant menu. And it certainly isn’t a dish that lends itself to artisan interpretations. But to me, it's the ultimate comfort food.
How Conquering My Cleaning Habit Improved My Mental Health, Next Avenue
Overcoming the impulse to clean my way out of uncomfortable feelings has taken conscious effort, but the results are worth it.
Cars: A Love Language, Oregon Humanities
On expectation, estrangement and engine trouble.
7 Things the New Beatles Documentary Can Teach Writers, Brevity
From virtuoso jam sessions to the fantastic late 1960s fashions, The Beatles new documentary “Get Back” has captured our collective imagination. I was mesmerized watching their creativity coalesce into iconic lyrics and melodies, and along the way, gleaned priceless reminders about the writing life.
